Larry Sutton, a former Daily News writer and a long-admired figure in city journalism circles, died suddenly Saturday, according to friends and family.
Sutton, 64, worked as a reporter and columnist at The News before moving on as associate editor with People Magazine, articles editor for OK! Magazine and an editor/writer position at Time Inc. Books.
Sutton became one of the stalwarts of the Inner Circle, the annual fund-raiser where city reporters mount a satirical show poking fun at the mayor and other local politicians.
Daily News Editor-in-Chief Arthur Browne recalled Sutton’s stellar work during his time at the tabloid.
“Across thousands of stories, from the tragic to the trivial, Larry Sutton was a consummate writer who made it look easy to be clear, concise and fast with just the right tone, whether deeply touching or uniquely, Suttonesquely witty,” said Browne.
