BREAKING: Father and Son missing in Water in the Delta | WKRG – WKRG

MOBILE, Ala. (WKRG) –

UPDATE: 9:30 PM

Most all of the boats in the search effort have been pulled out of the water for the evening. Daphne search and rescue had a boat out before running scans, but also plans pull out within the hour and suspend the search.

Crews will be back out early Thursday morning to continue looking for the missing boaters.

UPDATE: 6:37 PM

Coast Guard Sector Mobile received a report at 1:00 p.m. from a mariner who witnessed his 52-year-old male cousin and 82-year-old uncle fall overboard after their boat capsized due to the weather.

Involved in the search are:

  • Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island 29-foot Response Boat-Small boat crew
  • Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew
  • Mobile Police Department marine unit
  • 3 Daphne Search and Rescue vessels
  • 2 Mobile Sheriff Flotilla vessels
  • North Baldwin Sheriffs Search and Rescue

UPDATE 3:49 PM

Family members have identified the missing men as Leo and Frederick Scott, father and son, of Mobile.

UPDATE 3:35 PM

Mobile Fire Rescue confirms that the capsized boat has been located.  No word on the missing fishermen.

UPDATE 3:12 PM

A man in his 80s and his son, in his early 50s are missing after the accident. Steve Huffman with Mobile Fire and Rescue says that one boat was towing another when it happened. The boat being towed began taking on water and capsized. The two men on the towing boat fell into the water. A third person on the towing boat says that he turned his back for a moment, turned back and they were gone. Neither men were wearing life jackets. The third man on the boat told rescuers that he tried to help the men, but couldn’t reach them. They went in the water and never came up. Rescue workers, including the coast guard, are staged across the road from the Battleship Memorial Park. Rescue workers are trying to locate the scene of the accident. Huffman says the survivor of the accident is also related to the two missing men.

ORIGINAL STORY

Several local agencies are responding to the Mobile River Delta where two people are missing after a boat capsized in the water.

Crews from Mobile Fire Rescue, Alabama Marine Police, and Daphne Search and Rescue are working the scene in downtown Mobile and the Causeway. The rescue efforts are currently underway in the Spanish River area.

Fire officials say two people fell overboard and never resurfaced after a boat capsized.
